Determination of the actual state of transactions in technology, know-how, etc. with other countries - called "the technology trade" - not only gives insights into the level of Japanese technology and the ability of Japan to develop technology, but also has material meanings in linking up Japan and other countries technologically and spreading Japanese technology internationally. NISTEP has been engaged in various surveys and analyses to throw light on the structure of the trade in technology.
